Jay is a native Georgian; having grown up in Cordele.  Immediately after graduating from Mercer University School of Law, Jay began work as law clerk to the Honorable Duross Fitzpatrick in the Middle District of Georgia.  From there, Jay went to work at the management labor and employment law firm Fisher & Phillips in 1989, but in 1993, he joined three other lawyers to form their own firm specializing in representing individuals and small businesses in employment matters.  In 1999, Jay began practicing with Debra Schwartz when they and others formed the firm of Thompson, Rollins & Schwartz. 

Jay focuses his practice on assisting his individual clients in addressing their employment issues and advising his business clients in day-to-day employment-related issues, reviewing and preparing policies and handbooks, conducting employee training, ensuring compliance and handling charges and other claims filed by current and former employees.  Jay is an active member of the Georgia Bar Association, currently serving as the Vice-Chair for the Labor and Employment Section.  He has been a speaker at Continuing Legal Education and bar seminars in Georgia and nationally.

Jay’s interests outside the law include supporting the Atlanta arts community, reading, travel, horseback riding and college football.
